Got questions? I (likely) have answers.
What's the purpose of therapy?
Individual Therapy often answers two questions concurrently: "Why am I the way that I am?" and "How do I want to be?" In our work together, we will seek out the answers to these questions and find our way to a you that feels good.
Couples & Family Therapy often answers slightly different questions: "Why do we continue to get stuck?" "How will we get through this?" "How can we reconnect with one another?" and at times, "Is this the right relationship for us?" In our work together, we will seek out the answers to these questions and find our way to a relationship that feels intimate and loving, or help you reach the decision that it's best to part ways.
How do you approach clients who come from a different background than you?
I've worked with people along the full spectrum of racial, ethnic, spiritual and socioeconomic backgrounds. When a person's background differs from my own, I perceive them to be the expert of their own culture, values, beliefs and experiences. I ask thoughtful, exploratory questions to get a full picture of what walking through life looks like for you. I invite this understanding intentionally into the therapy room and make it an active part of our work together.
How will our relationship differ from the one that I have with family and friends?
This is so important. Your relationship with your therapist is infinitely special because it is all about you. This is the one place where you can focus exclusively on your wants, needs, thoughts and feelings. This is a space for us to explore everything about you (and for couples or family therapy, your relationships) in order to get you to where you'd like to be.
I'm having a rough time. Can you handle it?
Why yes, I most certainly can. And you know what? So can you.
We all need a little help sometimes and I'm here for it - all of it.
This is just the tip of the question iceberg.
